Lifts for hospitals, care homes, and medical centres

Specifying, installing and maintaining lifts in a hospital, clinic or care home is a unique challenge. Physical dimensions can be difficult, and official guidance is complicated. Most importantly, patients and professionals need continuous service to ensure safe, dignified care.

To tackle it, you need a broad range of reliable bed lifts, passenger lifts, and goods lifts – supported by a flexible, caring service team. But most of all, you need experience.

Understanding the guidance around healthcare lifts

Lifts in medical and health centres need to fulfil a lot of requirements. The Department of Health’s Technical Memorandum on lifts is 114 pages long, covering planning, design, maintenance and operation.

Further specific standards and regulations vary depending on lift type – along with other guidance to help you deliver on the CQC’s fundamental standards of care.

For example, there are recommendations on making lifts friendly for patients with dementia, to prevent physical and psychological effects. These affect the interior, flooring, skirting, lights, communications and controls. In some cases, you may need to apply for an exception to Building Regulations Part M.

It’s not easy. But we’re here to help, and we’ll work as your partner throughout, to make sure you comply with all the relevant best practice.

Bed lifts, passenger lifts and goods lifts for medical environments

Having a wide range of lifts helps us to solve access problems on medical sites, where space is at a premium and disruption is impossible.

At King’s College Hospital, our self-supporting Goodsmaster Plus lift helps move goods, attendants and beds to a capacity of 2000kg, without a pit. And High Wycombe’s Carrington House Surgery has expanded to offer services on the first floor, after fitting a Midilift XLplus platform lift.

Hospitals, clinics and care homes often choose:

Refurbishing, maintenance and emergency repair – for any lift brand

We don’t only supply and install lifts. We also keep them running – with the flexibility and consideration you need to avoid disrupting your care. If that means working out of hours, it’s fine by us.

We’re happy to take care of any lift brand – and our work modernising and refurbishing lifts can often help to avoid replacement costs.

And importantly, our nationwide network of 11 service branches will ensure there’s always an expert nearby – day or night. Because your care can’t suffer for the sake of a lift.

Please feel free to browse our clients’ stories in the healthcare sector, or to contact our team. Your patients rely on your lifts – and that’s a responsibility we take seriously.
